That love affair with brunch is back. This time it’s at the Chicago Diner in Boystown! Prior to a show we were seeing nearby (The Winter’s Tale by Promethean Theatre Ensemble at the Athenaeum, now closed) we decided it was necessary to stop for some fuel. Due to crazy schedules combined with a fear of the crazy lines Chicago Diner is known for, we have never actually been there for brunch, only dinners on weeknights so as to prevent massive line waiting time. This day, with a back up plan in mind if the wait was too long, we took a chance. And boy am I glad we did.
We both started out with our favorite breakfast drinks, neither of which I got a photo of. A Bloody Mary for me and a mimosa for her. It took far too long to pick what we wanted to actually eat. This brunch menu is KILLER and contains all of my breakfast favorites from biscuits and gravy to mexican inspired dishes. Their cinnamon rolls are legend and everything else sounded so. freaking. good. We couldn’t decide!
I eventually decided to go off the brunch menu- overwlehmed by the choices there- and went with my Chicago Diner favorite, their poutine. Waffle fries topped with gravy, vegan cheese, and green onions. I always add jalapeno and vegan sour creme though they also have an option for seitan bacon. It’s all good.
Sarah opted for the cinnamon roll french toast. Which is exactly that. A cinnamon roll fried like french toast and topped with icing and a strawberry coulis. With a side of seitan sausage, paprika breakfast potatoes, and fruit, this dish was a winner.
Everything was so so good. I think we will be taking the chance of brunch at Chicago diner more often now.
