I’m definitely calling this a perk to a long engagement. With our venue and date solidified a while ago, we already know what our anniversary is going to be. And a few weeks ago, we got to celebrate it a year early!
We packed up a breakfast picnic while it was still very dark outside, gathered blankets, hoodies, and the dog, and made our way out to the beach where we settled in to watch the sun rise.
Partway into the morning, Zoe decided she was cold and started shivering. So, of course, we wrapped her up in a blanket and took turned snuggling her to keep the cold away.
As the sun came up more (and as we drank enough coffee to be awake) we pulled out a breakfast mostly of pastries. Which Zoe was all about.
Unfortunately, a particularly cloudy morning meant we didn’t get to see too much in the way of actual sunrise. Just lots of pink clouds. Which was just fine by us!
Getting chilly ourselves, we packed everything up and headed back inside, ready to start the day. We went about our separate days and came back together in the evening for a delicious dinner at a place on the Southport corridor called Spencer’s Jolly Posh, now closed. Our honeymoon will be partly in England so we figured it would be fun to eat English food this day to celebrate the meals we will be having once we travel.
Delightful and traditional British fare paired with ale and cider. I’m only sad I discovered this place too late.
As we made our way home, we stopped by our favorite wine ship, Independent Spirits, Inc. where we grabbed two bottles of wonderful chardonnay from the year we started dating. We drank one that evening, paired with a vegan havarti cheese, and we will save one to drink again on our wedding day.
While it means we still have a whole year to wait until wedding day, it was so nice to get to celebrate our special day a little early.
