Happy New Year!

I’m going to be honest right off the bat. I have never been as jazzed about the start of a new year as everyone else. I feel exactly the same waking up on January 1 as I did waking up on December 31. It’s a great excuse to go see friends and have a good time but I’ve never been a big fan of using it as a time to sort of refresh and start anew. I don’t actually start writing the correct year until like March (on a good year!). I am not magically a new better person with all these goals and things. None of that. It’s literally just another day off and, when it happens during the week, I don’t have to go to work.

I could spout reasons why or theories or anything but it’s this simple: I don’t care enough. If I am going to make a change, it is going to be on my own terms in my own time. It’s not going to be because everybody else is doing it too on January 1. It’s not because suddenly there’s a change in the calendar and that much be a good reason to start something new. The changes I make in my life are changes that I am making when I am emotionally and physically ready for them. And not a minute sooner. New Year’s Day is just not good motivation.

That all being said, though, 2014 was a pretty good year. Because of the changes I made in my own time during them. I moved out of my dad’s house, ran the Mudderella (happening in 2015, too!), I got a freaking Master’s degree, I got engaged to the love of my life, I ate some amazing food, and I started Stile.Foto.Cibo. Everything I’ve done has been amazing. There have been lows — there always are and we wouldn’t be humans without them — and there have been the most amazing highs.
