Fountainhead, Ravenswood

Fountainhead, Ravenswood | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Oh do I love a good rooftop dining experience, especially in Chicago during the summer. It might be my favorite way to experience Chicago summers, actually. Good food, great weather and views, cool drinks, good company. It’s such a relaxed way to unwind.

So when my cousin came in to visit, I had to wow her with a dining experience like no other. We headed to Fountainhead, a German-inspired restaurant in Ravenswood with a killer rooftop and am awesome sounding menu of snacks to munch the evening away.

Drinks

We started with sonme drinks at the bar while they prepped our table upstairs. Since Jessie’s under 21, she stuck with a diet coke but I got more adventurous and tried their rosé sangria. Oh my goodness was it sweet. But actually really good! It was crisp and refreshing even if my molars were wondering why I’d done this to them. I don’t know that I would order it again but it was good for a start.

Sarah ordered a rhubarb cider that I thought was awful but she loved. Rhubarb is super not my jam, though, so I knew I was in for disappointment with that one.

Atmosphere

With our table ready, we headed upstairs and were seated. The vibe of the rooftop is so chill. Disposable cups and dishes, umbrellas, TVs, an open grill. It was great and exactly what we were looking for, even if we couldn’t really get any good views from where we were.

Food

The main event! This was where Fountainhead really won me over. Between the three of us, we tried a good chunk of the rooftop menu (which is different from the menu downstairs in the main restaurant). Tacos, german pub bites, and so much more. This stuff was gooooood. Keep scrolling for details on the food we ordered and more photos form this amazing evening.

Elotes, Fountainhead style! This dish is inspired by the traditional hispanic version. Corn, cheese, butter, chile powder, cilantro, and lime. So delicious.

Chicken taco. Looked good, smelled good. Pretty traditional and got a thumbs up from Jessie!

Pretzel with dipping mustard. That mustard was teeming with horseradish. Definitely not for the faint of heart but really tasty nonetheless.

Pork taco. Also really tasty.

Pub cheese, which is exactly what it looks like. A tub of cheese and a pretzel roll for spreading. Spicy with horseradish and so yummy.

I highly recommend checking our Fountainhead for an awesome rooftop experience. Their extensive drink menu will have something to satisfy everyone and their food is wonderful! They do not take reservations so prepare to wait a little while if you want to sit up top, even on weekdays!

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

It’s been a good long while since I did anything new with my hair, and that includes cuts! I tend to neglect my hair between sessions in a salon and the result is usually lots of dead and split ends, sad curls, and just an unhappy time for everyone.

My experience with HAIR LOFT West Loop, however, was phenomenal! I worked with Christian on recommendation of the owner, Ben, and couldn’t be more pleased to report that he did an amazing job with the color, the cut, and the styling. I’m so so happy with my hair now and actually feel confident no matter how it’s styled thanks to a killer cut and a fresh new color look.

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

We sat down and just chatted hair for a little bit. Christian asked about my general routine, how I style, my last cut, and more of the usual. I showed him some photos to use as inspiration for both color and style and then basically told him “Have fun!” And oh boy did he.

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

We went over to the color bar where we talked specific shades for me and he mixed my color. We went with a dark chocolate-y brown around the roots which fades to a very light blonde for the middle and ends of my hair.

I love that the color bar is separate from the rest of the salon. That means that if you’re just in for a blowout, you’re not getting suffocated by the smells of color in the next chair over. And there are no mirrors in the color bar so you can’t get nervous as color is being applied. It requires a new level of trust for your stylist but it’s definitely for the better. It makes seeing your color for the first time feel like a big reveal!

Everyone’s least favorite part is waiting for color to set. But with a table full of magazines, tea and coffee, and actually comfy chairs, it’s not the worst experience ever.

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Over to the washing station which is equally as beautiful (this whole space is beautiful, let’s be real) to get the color out and then back to the color bar to tone that lightener. This is another point where I was super glad there weren’t any mirrors in the color bar. Just-bleaches hair looks and feels gross so not being able to see it actually kept me way calmer than seeing it in a mirror. Putting that trust in Christian again!

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

After a little bit more waiting around and a trip to the washing station for shampoo and conditioner, it was finally over to the styling stations where Christian began his masterful work. Cutting layers everywhere, getting my less than happy ends gone, and really giving my hair some wonderful attention while still keeping it long, the way I love it.

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

A little blow drying and a little bit of curling followed. Christian talked me through some awesome tips for curling my hair which I was able to [sort of] replicate later on my own. I think a big part of it is going to be practice but that’s half the fun sometimes, right?

But now, for the magic:

Curls and Color with Hair Loft West Loop | Stile.Foto.Cibo

I absolutely LOVE it! I love the way he styled the curls, I love how the color came out, I love the layers and the length. Absolutely all of it is just perfection. Christian did a truly wonderful job with my mane and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Want to work with Christian as well? Here’s his hours:

Tue West Loop 11a – 7p
Wed River North 1p – 9p
Thu River North 1p – 9p
Fri West Loop 11a – 7p
Sat West Loop 9a – 5p
The River North location can be found at 217 W Huron and the West Loop is at 33 N Carpenter.

Swimsuit Summer Style

Summer Style: Forever 21 Bikini | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Words cannot accurately describe how much I absolutely love this bikini. It’s gorgeous, it’s unique, it actually makes me feel confident in something that isn’t boy shorts, and it makes me look more tan than I actually am. Basically, it hits on all the important points and I’m OBSESSED. It’s certainly going to make for some interesting tan lines on our honeymoon this October but I don’t even care. I feel amazing in this bikini (something that hasn’t happened… ever) and I love that.

Though, admittedly, it probably helps to have your fiancee taking the photos. That’s quite the confidence boost, I must say.

Summer Style in a Wrap Skirt & Statement Earrings

Summer Style: Wrap Skirt & Statement Earrings | Stile.Foto.Cibo

A good outfit that works for the office and for going out is like a Holy Grail that I work so hard to find. So when this skirt was on sale at J.Crew Factory for damn near 50% off and I got these earrings in from ILYMIX, I knew I was set. This look is perfect to wear to work and then take straight out to drinks with friends!

The earrings might be my favorite part, too. Remember those posts back in Feb & March about ILYMIX and getting 20% off your order? That code still works. So go to http://www.ilymix.com and use code “stile20” at checkout and you get 20% off! I can solidly say, having a ton of their stuff, that it’s all wonderful!

I’m also just obsessed with this skirt right now. It’s a faux wrap skirt, so I don’t actually have to wrap it. It zips up the back! But the knot detail on the side and the whole pattern is just stunning. I love it so much!

Public Hotel & Pump Room Summer Cocktail Launch

Summer Cocktail Party, Public Hotel, Chicago | Stile.Foto.Cibo

To kick off the best season in Chicago and show off their new seasonal cocktails, Public Hotel hosted a party for influencers in Chicago. A rooftop party. With cocktails. Literally the most signature Chicago thing you can do in the summer. Needless to say, we FLOCKED there in droves. I saw so many of my favorite blogger babes including Rachel of Wayfaring Rachel, Maddy of Chicago Cheap-Ass, Katie of Dining at my Desk, and Chrissy of The Hungary Buddha! It was an amazing chance for us to all catch up, unwind, and share a drink in this picturesque location.

Now, I’m in lust with the Gold Coast already. The whole neighborhood is STUNNING and I’m just a little bit obsessed. So getting a chance to party there might have made my entire week. And on the rooftop with those gorgeous views of the skyline? Yep, I was sold.

The cocktail menu featured the new seasonal selections for each of the Public Hotel’s various restaurants and lounges. This includes the Pump Room and the Library & Coffee Lounge (which is going to probably become a regular haunt for me in the very near future). I sampled four of the cocktails on feature and am happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

The Niña Fuerte features a Yerba-Mate tea infused Milagro Reposado Tequila alongside Luxardo Marachino, lime, pineapple, and mint. I happened to be nearby when this one was being mixed up and got to watch its creator, Ben Pavlichek, at work. It was mesmerizing watching the expert cocktail creation!

Among other drinks sampled were the Strawberry Royale, a sparkling rose with strawberry syrup (just a bit sweet for my taste); the Gold Coast, La Colombe cold-brew with barrel-aged gin, non-dairy milk, simple syrup, and a kiss of cinnamon (so delicious!); and, the surprise of the evening, the Coffee Stout, sparkling cold-brew coffee with whiskey, vanilla simple syrup, and a touch of lemon zest. It was so refreshing!

I highly recommend checking out Public Hotel for their many different dining and lounge options and trying all the summery cocktails available.

Joy District Chi, the Grand Opening

Joy District in Chicago, a New Restaurant | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Let me tell you about this awesome restaurant called Joy District. They’re stationed in River North and are one of those awesome concept places with three floors, one of which is a dope rooftop. I’m such a sucker for rooftops that anyone with one has automatically won me over simply with that.

So before I get to the food, let me tell you about the restaurant itself. This place has some of the best styling I’ve ever seen at a restaurant! Super gorgeous patterns, nice industrial vibe with the exposed brick and crazy high ceilings. Mirrors and art all over the place. Seriously, it’s an Instagram dream!

And the rooftop? Lounge chairs everywhere. Amazing views. Everything you could ever want in a Chicago rooftop plus some stunning art. So good.

But this food now.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any good photos of the food since it was going so fast! They brought out delicious bites on trays that didn’t last long at all. Trays were being decimated left and right!

I got to sample their burger slider, fish slider, tuna sushi, and more. I’m happy to announce that literally everything I ate was phenomenal. Enough so that I will definitely be going back to sample their full menu in the future.

Even though this was just an opening party and I didn’t get to fully experience everything that Joy District has to offer, I was super pleased with everything I DID get to experience. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Copper Fox, a Gastropub

Copper Fox, River North. A New Chicago Gastropub | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Gastropub
/ ɡastrōˌpəb/ noun. British / a pub that specializes in serving high quality food.

Basically, everything I loved about England. Right in the heart of Chicago. Naturally, when I walked by them I knew I was bound to go back to sample some delicious food.

Copper Fox is one of the newer restaurants to grace the River North area. They’re so new, they don’t even have a website yet — just Facebook! Adorable logo, stunning decor, and a menu that made me have dreams of the food I would one day eat there.

Cue excuse for a birthday lunch and you bet I was all over going here! I finally got to sample the amazing menu that tantalized me for several weeks.

We got a table and I immediately booked it for the drink menu. After spending lots of time in England, I honestly find it kind of weird that we don’t have a drink with lunch here in America. So when I have the option to sip on something while I dine I definitely will. I went with a lovely fruity chardonnay that supported the rest of my meal rather beautifully.

I had a beet and goats cheese sandwich which had fresh arugula (or rocket, depending on where you come from), and was served alongside some pretty scrumptious sweet potato tots. Sarah sampled their fried avocado salad, though her avocado was not fried so as to work with her allergies.

Which reminds me- they were actually pretty great with that! The menu didn’t have terribly much that was dairy and egg free from the start but they were willing to work with us to modify a dish so that Sarah could enjoy the amazing food without getting sick. Any restaurant that takes the time to do that is A+ in my book! So good job, Copper Fox.

The food was, needless to say, amazing! It lived up to the expectations that I had been building in my head. My sandwich was so so so delicious. I’m convinced that beets at goats cheese are the most delicious combination known to culinary kind and, thus, it’s the combo that brings out my foodie more than most places.

Sarah’s salad was super tasty, too! It came with these candied jalapeños that were a little sweet, a little pickley, and a little spicy and just made the salad so perfect, particularly since the avocado was just raw. It definitely supported al the ingredients in the dish. I can only imagine how good it would be with the fried version!

We finished our meal and actually got to chat with Dominic Angotti, the general manager. He inquired about our meal and made sure our allergy needs had been well tended to. I got to hear a little bit about the restaurant and their future plans which include a sidewalk patio (my favorite!). Then he asked about dessert and this was where they really shined.

We don’t do dessert terribly often since most desserts are laden with milk and/or eggs but they went out of their way to create something just for us. A fresh raspberry sorbet with chunks of strawberries and (because I mentioned it was my birthday) a candle sticking out the top. Definitely off-menu and very simple but it showed a commitment to the diner as well as their commitment to quality ingredients. That was easily some of the best sorbet I have ever had!

My overall experience at Copper Fox was seriously wonderful. I will be returning there again and again for a high quality lunch, a round of drinks, or whatever I happen to be feeling on that particular day. Make sure to check them out at 155 E. Ontario St and let me know how the experience is!

Onto the photos. Enjoy the scroll!

Burberry Birthday Adventure

Burberry Flagship Store Visit | Stile.Foto.Cibo

May might be one of my favorite months of the year. It starts to get warm for real, flowers are everywhere, and my birthday happens! This year, I’m actually celebrating, whereas last year I didn’t do terribly much. So the celebrations began last week with a trip to the Burberry flagship store here in Chicago for a birthday present that I’ve been eyeing for a while: MyBurberry eau de toilette.

The scent is amazing! And the experience was great. We were helped immediately upon entering the store and had just wonderful service. They helped me pick out my scent and then did complimentary makeup service! I’m now obsessed with their concealer and everything.

After we picked the scent and did the makeup, we got to walk around the store while they engraved my bottle with my initials. I found so many pieces that I fell in love with immediately including a gorgeous mulberry microbag and more.

Overall, the experience was amazing and I had so much fun! Enjoy the scroll!

Bloggers Who Brunch @ The Allis, Soho House

Bloggers Who Brunch

What happens when you get a group of amazing blogger babes together and you all go out? Brunch at one of Chicago’s most beautiful spots, that’s what.

The wonderful Dasha of Windy City Wardrobe got this great group together to share a meal, meet each other, and just commiserate over being a blogger in this city of ours over some amazing food. We met up at The Allis inside Soho House.

Left to right in the photo above we’ve got Sabrina of Styles by Sab, Lindsey of Butter & Type, Dasha of Windy City Wardrobe, me, and Jalpa of Samosa Pop. We also had Michaela of The Deep End Review, Dasha’s wonderful wife and our photographer for the day. It was so great to get together with other bloggers where we could really chat with each other about all things blogger and there was zero judgement over taking tons of photos (and standing on chairs to do so) and just being our blogger selves.

But let’s talk about The Allis for a second. Because oh my goodness.

This little photography haven is actually the lobby of Soho House and serves a very limited menu. Their brunch menu is less than 20 items and that includes pastries. But every single thing is so so good and $15 or less. So it’s perfect for those of us who have to brunch on a budget but still want to have a wonderful and delicious time. Between all of us, we sampled a hearty portion of the menu and I think it’s safe to say we all really enjoyed what we had to eat.

My favorite item was definitely The Allis Breakfast. It’s avocado, hard eggs, smoked salmon, tomatoes, and toast all for you to mix and match and mash and devour. I also highly recommend the grilled cheese (there’s goats cheese on this, people!) and their lattes which are as delicious as they are beautiful. I definitely plan on going back very soon as it was so good.

I mean… I DO have a birthday coming up next month… (THIS IS A GIANT HINT!)

Beyond their brunch, The Allis is known for their afternoon tea which is served every single day and ridiculously popular. Definitely book in advance for that. Their lunch menu, equally small, is rumored to be wonderful as well. I’m convinced this place can do no wrong.

Now on to the photos!

Way Up High with 360 Chicago

360 Chicago | Stile.Foto.Cibo

This past Tuesday, I was lucky enough to be able to attend a preview of 360 Chicago’s new Sunset Series (formerly the John Hancock Observatory). It was a wonderful evening filled with amazing people, stunning views, great drinks, and some TILT!-ilating excitement!

First we got to explore the new exhibition before going up to the observation area. This exhibit talks about Chicago’s amazingly rich history by focusing on all of its many wonderful neighborhoods. From Lakeview to Pilsen and everything in between, the exhibit paints a stunning picture of everything it means to be a Chicagoan.

After some libations, we found a few friends! Rachel (Wayfaring Rachel), Amber (Style Plus Curves), and Toya (The Fat Girl of Fashion) are fellow bloggers and just the most amazing ladies! We shared a drink and a chat and then decided it was time to go try this Tilt thing.

So, Tilt is Chicago’s highest moving attraction. You step onto a platform and hold onto the bars and the whole little box tips forward laying you out to see the city below you. Unprecedented views of the Magnificent Mile and other unique Chicago sites await those who are brave enough to try. Sarah decided to photograph the experience for us (How sweet!) and sit back while we tilted.

And then we made our way back to the main part of the deck to continue our exploring.

They have these wonderful little touch screen televisions around the windows that let you zoom in and out on a snapshot of the view you’re currently looking at. You can tap different locations and learn more about each building or the companies that occupy the buildings. Rachel and I had a good time learning about the view over the Loop.

With a pause for a photo, of course!

The whole evening was just so much fun. Amazing people, drinks, views, and everything.

The Sunset Series will occur on three evenings out of the week this summer. Mondays are photo nights, Tuesdays will have a guide in the sky with you from Chicago Architecture Foundation to tell you about the buildings and design you’re looking at, and Thursdays you’ll toast the sunset while DJs provide their best mixes for you.
