Fall Back with AIBI Watch

Ask any stage manager what their most useful tool is and they will all tell you something different. For me, I can’t do anything without a watch. So much of what I do relies on time from keeping time in rehearsals to timing a performance to making sure actors show up on time. So having a good watch is vital to being able to perform my job adequately.

But watches need to be more than functional for a fashionista like me. I need something that looks good, too! That’s where AIBI Watch comes in. They approached me about reviewing their watches and I couldn’t resist. Their whole collection is so beautiful!

Unfortunately, I have extremely tiny wrists. So while I enjoy a good metallic band on a watch, they absolutely never fit. I went with this leather banded watch and couldn’t be happier! It fits just perfectly and with the adjustable band, I know I have a good solid fit that won’t slip off at work.

I’ve been using the watch for a few weeks now. It has survived work with children, walks with Zoe, and even international travel (posts on that trip coming soon)! It has withstood rather a lot in the time I’ve been using it and isn’t showing any wear at all.

But most importantly, it keeps time wonderfully. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have bought watches in the past that didn’t stay on time! I would check my watch and it would be any number of minutes behind. It was truly awful. Obviously, those watches weren’t good quality. But these are.

The rose gold and rhinestone detail in this specific watch is exactly fitting to my style. A little bit of shimmer and bling without overdoing it. I can wear this watch with truly any outfit and for any occasion — including a wedding!

I highly recommend giving AIBI Watch a try. Their watches are truly wonderful.

We took these photos on an amazing day in Chicago. Early November is never this beautiful. Just chilly enough that both Zoe and I needed sweaters but warm enough that we didn’t want to go inside!

There are so so many photos from this shoot. I just have to share them all with you! Enjoy the scroll and enjoy the last of fall!

Things you do differently when you are a dog parent

Having a dog is easily one of the best experiences a person can have (assuming you are a dog person). I’ve been around dogs my whole life. But taking care of the family dog and taking care of your own dog are two entirely different experiences. When that tiny little face wakes you up with a lick and a tail wag so intense it shakes her entire body, you can’t help but have a better outlook on life. Being a fur mom, however, does not come without some drastic life changes.

  1. You shower with the bathroom door open. Just in case.
  2. Muddy pawprints on your favorite jeans are just a fact of life.
  3. Your jacket pockets are now perpetually full of dog treats and poop bags.
  4. You’re not surprised anymore when you find dog hair in weird places.
  5. While you may love the arrangement of your living room, your dog doesn’t so you rearrange the furniture. Again.
  6. When you sit down to eat, you [almost] always set aside a portion of your dinner for your dog.
  7. You totally judge people on the street based on how they react to your dog.
  8. “Sleeping in” means waking up to walk your dog on schedule then going back to sleep.
  9. Your day is now broken up as follows: breakfast time, walk time, play time, cuddle time, nap time, etc.
  10. You are more inclined to give your business to dog-friendly establishments. Anywhere that wants your pooch to come in just as much as they want you to come in is a good place to be.
  11. Cuddle time can often be a full contact sport.
  12. Snapchat becomes a place for you to subject your friends to photos and videos of your dog.
  13. Everything they do is the new cutest thing ever.
  14. Canceling plans because your dog needs you is totally a thing.
  15. Even if they cant talk back, they listen. So you tell them everything.
  16. If their favorite chair has stuff on it, you immediately clear it out so they can sit there instead.

Give your furry friends an extra snuggle and a treat today. They deserve it.

Fishtail French Braid Updo, Blanket Scarves, and Doggy Debut!

Last weekend, Chicago displayed its most undecided weather and gave us a day of sun and warmth immediately followed by a day of cold, extreme wind, snow, and gross. Conveniently, we decided the warm day would be a good day to take Zoe Dog on an adventure around her new neighborhood. We walked over 2.5 miles, discovered sand, met other dogs, chased squirrels, played in the mud, and had a grand ol’ time. Safe to say, she was exhausted after that adventure.

While Zoe was focused on excitement and play time, I focused a little more on having a comfy day. An oversized t-shirt, pants, and a gigantic scarf were all I needed.

But have you ever had those days where your hair is just really bothering you and it wont listen and you just want it all up and away never to escape again? Because let me tell you. UGH! Sarah loves playing with my hair, though. So we found this wonderful braid tutorial and she set to work. The result? Gorgeous hair that didnt get in my way. At all. Ever. It was marvelous. Though this bun was certainly not made for chasing squirrels. The braids stayed in but the bun was floppy by the time we got home.

When we get into the depths of January into February and everything is gross outside and miserable, I start to really dislike Chicago. Like, this weather is so sporadic. Gorgeous one day, snowing sideways the next. All with the added fun of living right on the water! This was one of those days, though, where I remember that I really do love where I live, even if it’s deeply hidden during the winter months.

But just look at this view. Less than a block away. The Great Lakes are named so for good reason.

_MG_7319Zoe loved having such a long walk. We loved how gloriously tired she was afterward. Everyone wins.

Statement Necklace Styling and Dog!

Sunday’s outfit was inspired by Dolled Up With Liz’s post, “Never dull your sparkle!” about styling an entire outfit around a statement necklace. So that is exactly what I did, inspired entirely by her outfit. I know this chambray has been featured in my last three outfit posts. I promise that 1) it’s been clean (we’ve hat a lot of laundry to do lately. And I’ve just been tossing it in) and 2) I will let it rest for a while now. I was just so pumped about it!

The necklace is an impressive Forever 21 find. They’re really stepping up their necklace game. Paired with a simple t-shirt and a maxi-skirt, both of which are older pieces. Now that I think about it, save for the shoes, this entire outfit might be from Forever 21. The shoes are Steve Madden. Nice and neutral.

I was nervous to try such a bold necklace at first — I haven’t been one to take too many big style risks — but boy am I glad I did. I love this piece! It’s going to very quickly become a go-to for a little bit of sparkle on even dull days.

But onto the next and arguably most important part- Dog! We have adopted a dog! Her name is Zoe, she’s about 2, and we think she’s a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. She’s such a sweetheart. I’ll definitely be sharing stories about her as we get to know each other better. Stay tuned!

This is Cindy. She's a sweetheart.

–EDIT NOTE– When this post was scheduled, we had only met Zoe, not adopted her yet. I have updated to share that awesome announcement.
