Resort Style, Riviera Maya, Mexico

It wouldn’t be a vacation with a blogger and her photographer without at least one outfit shoot. And, somehow, that’s all we did. One single outfit shoot. Oh well, at least this one was tons of fun!

The top I’m wearing is a winner by t+j designs and one of my favorite things in my closet right now. I’m planning on styling this at least two more ways for the blog, that series coming soon!

Real talk: my hair really truly hates Caribbean humidity. No matter what I did, I could not tame that beast.

Our trip to Mexico was absolutely wonderful — relaxing with a hint of history and exploring. And a wicked sunburn, but we won’t talk any more about that.

Thinking of traveling to the Riviera Maya/Cancun area? I highly recommend giving Iberostar Paraiso Lindo a look. Their service was magnificent and the whole experience was just wonderful/

Riviera Maya Day Two: The Ocean

We woke up the next morning surprisingly early. My usual idea of vacation is sleep until I can’t sleep anymore, drink some coffee, and then set about doing things. And yet when 7:30 rolled around, I was awake and ready to go. So, of course, I rolled over and whispered “Are you awake?” She was then. Oops.

We made coffee and went to sip on the balcony, and watched the rest of the resort wake up around us. People sleepily making their way to breakfast, the first swimmers of the day, and everybody else simply enjoying the fact they were waking up in paradise.

Finally fueled to actually face other people, we went down to breakfast, already in swimsuits ready to make a break for the beach.

Full disclosure, I have never actually been in the ocean. I’ve been to it, I’ve eaten on the water, but I have never had the opportunity to actually go in the water. So imagine my excitement when I realised I was headed straight for it! My lady was wonderful enough to document the experience.

The camera went away and we spent some time just playing in the waves. It was so much fun! Honestly, I was surprised at how warm the water was. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to Lake Michigan which is freezing despite what time of year it is. But this was really quite pleasant.

After some time swimming, we made our way back to shore, pulled up some beach chairs, drinks, and books and spent the rest of the early part of our day being lazy and enjoying the warmth, sun, and relaxation.

My beach reading was Too Late… I Love You by Kiki Archer. A sweet little read recommended by the lovely ladies of Wegan. I loved it!

After some lunch, we made our way back to our rooms to get ready for the main event, the wedding! Set right on the water in the sand with the beautiful colors of the sunset as a backdrop, vows were said, everyone cried a little, and we toasted them with champagne. Congrats, Kim and Mat!

“You guys are next!”

The whole thing was just beautiful. We all sat down to dinner together and had a grand old family time. Next time we’ll all be together will be for my wedding! (PS, guys, I found my dress! No photos til wedding day, though. Sarah reads this blog!)

Up next on our Mexico adventures: those promised Mayan ruins!

Last month, my lady and I ventured to Riviera Maya, Mexico to celebrate the marriage of my cousin to her awesome husband.

To the airport, onto a plane, into another airport, and finally to a bus, we made it to our new home and promptly took some time to explore our little slice of paradise, the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo.

When our room was finally ready, we made our way there and unpacked. Naturally, we took a few photos!

I’m obsessed with that art. It was beautiful!!!

And then onto the balcony to discover just the most beautiful view of paradise.

After that, I packed away the camera and we set about finding my family, exploring the pool (with a swim up bar! I still cant get over that), and having dinner. Got some drinks, went back to our room, filled up the jacuzzi on our balcony (!!!!) and weren’t heard from until breakfast the next morning.

That’s all for today, just a teaser of what’s to come. Get ready for: my first time in the ocean, Mayan ruins, swimming in a cenote, and more!
