Upcycled Planting for Earth Day!

Whaaaaat?! Two posts in one day?! Crazy talk! But I’m super pumped about these so I want to share them ASAP. Chicago does that thing there it’s freaking freezing for so much of the year that our growing season doesn’t really officially start until Mother’d Day. But Earth Day is a good day to start planning and planting heartier stuff. For me, I like to start inside and work my way out. So I ventured to my local garden center on Wednesday and picked up some succulents and herbs to grow inside.

If you have been on pintrest at all, succulents are EVERYWHERE right now. And with good reason. They’re super pretty and [relatively] low maintenance if you know what you’re doing.

IMG_4490In the spirit of earth day, I’m using upcycled containers for these beauties. Some teacups that are gorgeous but we never drink out of made great bases for two of my succulents. And old tea tins compliment the cups nicely while providing a great home to some other plants!

Started out with a mess of stuff. Three succulents, chives, oregano, and sage. All repotted into one of those adorable containers. I didn’t get any shots of the herbs yet because I want to give them a chance to take to their new homes before I share them. So here’s a bunch of photos of the succulents instead.

This weekend we get to go start working on our vegetable plot! I can’t wait to share all the details about that. It’s going to be a ton of fun!

What did you do to celebrate earth day? Share in the comments!

The Inspiration Series: Summer Inspo

This is the first installment in my new Inspiration Series. Every Thursday, get a post filled with images meant to inspire!

Ughh! Let me tell you how cold it is right now. When I left this morning, it was -8. When I got to work it was -4. And that’s without the wind chill from the wall of moving air coming off the Lake right now. I need warm thoughts to get me through this! Just think, though. The first day of spring is nearly a month away! That’s gotta count for something, right?

So in the meantime, curl up with a cuppa and enjoy these warm thoughts of beaches, Chicago in the summer, and some awesome summer activities.
