Randolph Street Market Garden Party

Randolph Street Market Garden Party | Stile.Foto.Cibo

America’s Largest Urban Antiques Market, Randolph Street Market, hosted a season kick off Garden Party for a bunch of us Chicago bloggers and friends at the tail end of May to get everyone pumped for a summer of antiques shopping. And let me tell you, I’m so jazzed. We’re plotting a move in the near future and I know exactly where I want to go for decor and furniture. This place is the best!

There’s two sections to the market, outdoors and indoors. Vendors were still working on setting up everything for the weekend so we didn’t get to see EVERYTHING but we all got to take a good sweep of both sections. I fell in love with some furniture, a tannery, more jewelry than you can shake a stick at, and so much more. This place is a midcentury modern decor lover’s paradise.

I met up with Allie of Allie’s Fashion Alley and Allison of The Snotty Little Bitch to enjoy some sips and snacks and was pleasantly surprised to find Erin of Loop Looks as well! We got a great group together and really enjoyed all they had to offer.

Within the cabana, sponsored by Bangtel, were amazing boozy inspired cupcakes, chef created snacks to sample, drinks all around, and a myriad of inflatables and other props to take photos with. Basically, blogger paradise all inside a large yellow and white tent.

And right outside? JOOJ Blow Dry doing fast hair styles to freshen up those of us struggling with the intense humidity that day and just to try a fun new look. I got braids, Allie got curls, Erin got straightened out, and Allison got some amazing texture. It was so much fun!

This was a great way to kick off not only the beginning of the summer antiquing season but summer in general. I highly recommend checking out the market and all of the wonderful goodies it has hiding, waiting to be found and cherished forever. Cheers!

Summer Style in Chicago

Striped Skirt & Graphic T | Stile.Foto.Cibo

For as much as everyone else in Chicago complained about Spring being not hot and rainy, I loved it! Mostly because, well, that’s what spring is. 50’s and rainy. That’s the whole point. And now Chicago has exploded in a wash of green and flowers and warmth and sun and it’s absolutely perfect. And all that green makes the weeks on end of rain totally worth it.

Which means it’s time to start thinking about summer style! I generally follow the “the less clothing, the better” school of thought when it comes to beating the heat, especially in an unairconditioned apartment, but skirts tend to work just as well. If it can handle a breeze, it’s perfect!

I’m looking forward to seeing what trends actually take hold this summer. So far, I definitely see the off the shoulder look sticking around. I would definitely love to give maxi dresses another moment, too. We’ll see what the season brings!

Cheers to warm weather, drinks by the Lake, and another gorgeous summer in the greatest city on earth, Chicago.

Trunk Show at Sanem’s with T+J Designs

Sanem's in Oak Park | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Can we talk about how beautiful the weather was this weekend? Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved it. I think I spent more than 50% of my waking hours outside in the sunshine. And have the sunburns to prove it. It was the perfect opportunity to break out some shorts, roll down the windows, and head out to Sanem’s, a boutique in Oak Park. Owned by the lovely Sanem herself, she hosted a trunk show for one of my favorite Chicago brands, T+J Designs, along with Julie of A Better Day with Julie.

This boutique is so adorable and Sanem was such a wonderful host, greeting everyone and pulling things for us to all try on. The white lace romper she pulled for me was definitely not something I would have picked for myself but I LOVED it on. I’m seriously considering going back for it as an outfit for our rehearsal dinner this October.

As always, the pieces T+J Designs had on display were amazing. But I’m in love with everything they design so there was no surprise there. The new graphic Ts for this season are spectacular! I definitely have my eye on several of them.

I tried on a bunch of different pieces and, while I didn’t take them all home, I did get myself some new goodies that I can’t wait to share with you all. Details coming very soon!

Living on the Edge

SheInside Leather Detail Blazer | Stile.Foto.Cibo

As I spend more and more time developing and honing my sense of style, I’ve noticed how much I really love incorporating a little bit of edge into my every day dress. Whether it’s a choker (totally my new favorite trend) or the awesome leather and gold zipper detail on this blazer, I like to have something that’s a little less soft than the usual. Maybe it harkens back to my days as the token goth kid in high school (yes, chain pants were a staple in my closet. no, i don’t have photos) or maybe it’s just something that’s really a part of my personality. Either way, I love living on the edge.

My Style + My City

My Style + My City is a collaboration between bloggers who love their cities and how it influences their style!

My Style
I’m really into neutrals that have some sort of bolder element right now. Like the dress above. The structure is amazing and I love the high neck on it but it’s still plenty simple with the black and white window pane. I’m currently obsessing over a cardigan from LOFT that will be up on here soon. Keep an eye out!

My City
Chicago, Illinois. The Windy City. The City of Big Shoulders. Chi-Town. Our winters are brutal but the summers make up for it. Somehow, when it’s below zero and we’re all wondering why we live where the air hurts our faces, we are able to hang onto those warm summer nights at a rooftop bar or along the lake and remember that it will be warm again soon enough.

Dress Like a Chicagoan
Want to dress like a Chicagoan? Here’s a few tips (and brands!) to help you look like you’re straight from the Windy City:

  • Is it winter? Break out your warmest coat, the waterproof boots, and stick your cute heels in a bag. This is not the time of year to wear your favorite designer pumps. Chicago boots of choice for the style-concious are Hunters (with the fleecy boot socks!) or Sorels.
  • We love mixing hard and soft elements. Think leather and feathers together!
  • We spend so long wrapped in warm layers that when we get the chance to break out some bold features, we do! My favorite brand for glam pieces is t+j designs!

I asked a few of my fellow Chicago-based blogging friends what their favorite trends are right now. Here’s what they said:

  • Nikki of 30s and Chic says “I love, love, love simple and baggier clothing in a neutral palette (AG Jeans, Billy Reid, Vince) with a statement shoe.”
  • Dasha of Windy City Wardrobe says, “I’m really into print mixing & obsessed with long line vests.”
  • Tamara of Broke in the City says, “I’m still really into baggy sweaters with skirts.”

There you have it folks, some favorite trends to help you dress like a Chicagoan.

New Year’s Resolutions
I’ve just got one big one, that I talked about in my last post. I’m getting my mental health in order this year. But I’m taking it one step at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed and quit. Some of my first steps are making my bed every day (because I feel 100% more like I have my shit together when I do this) and moving every day (taking the stairs, going on long walks with the dog, etc.).

It wouldn’t be a vacation with a blogger and her photographer without at least one outfit shoot. And, somehow, that’s all we did. One single outfit shoot. Oh well, at least this one was tons of fun!

The top I’m wearing is a winner by t+j designs and one of my favorite things in my closet right now. I’m planning on styling this at least two more ways for the blog, that series coming soon!

Real talk: my hair really truly hates Caribbean humidity. No matter what I did, I could not tame that beast.

Our trip to Mexico was absolutely wonderful — relaxing with a hint of history and exploring. And a wicked sunburn, but we won’t talk any more about that.

Thinking of traveling to the Riviera Maya/Cancun area? I highly recommend giving Iberostar Paraiso Lindo a look. Their service was magnificent and the whole experience was just wonderful/

Chichen Itza & Cenote Ik Kil, Yucatan, Mexico

Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico | Stile.Foto.Cibo

Our second morning in Mexico dawned similarly to the first one, woke up early (this time on purpose), drank some coffee, and grabbed breakfast. We were heading on an adventure today! An extra pastry in hand for good measure, we waited at the front of our resort for a bus to come pick us up for a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world and a site that has been on my travel bucket list for a very long time.

The bus ride was long but we were almost instantly rewarded upon arriving. Rather than narrate our walk around the site, I’m just going to give you these photos. Enjoy the scroll!

And then we found a much bigger friend.

We finished our tour of the site, our guide being an amazing storyteller the whole, and made our way back out of the heat to lunch, a local restaurant serving local food. I’m sad to say I didn’t get any pictures but I will say this: I had so many tacos. And they were so amazing that no other tacos will be as good ever again.

Back into the bus once again, this time to a nearby cenote, or sinkhole, to enjoy the scenery and go for what felt like the most refreshing swim I had ever taken. Once again, simply enjoy these photos.

Bonus throwback to 2013, Lake Windermere

Back onto the bus one last time, we were handed beers and driven back to our resort, refreshed and ready to go snuggle into bed.

But of course, we were on vacation and that means staying up late and enjoying everything you possibly can. So there’s one more Mexico post!
