Upcycled Planting for Earth Day!

Whaaaaat?! Two posts in one day?! Crazy talk! But I’m super pumped about these so I want to share them ASAP. Chicago does that thing there it’s freaking freezing for so much of the year that our growing season doesn’t really officially start until Mother’d Day. But Earth Day is a good day to start planning and planting heartier stuff. For me, I like to start inside and work my way out. So I ventured to my local garden center on Wednesday and picked up some succulents and herbs to grow inside.

If you have been on pintrest at all, succulents are EVERYWHERE right now. And with good reason. They’re super pretty and [relatively] low maintenance if you know what you’re doing.

IMG_4490In the spirit of earth day, I’m using upcycled containers for these beauties. Some teacups that are gorgeous but we never drink out of made great bases for two of my succulents. And old tea tins compliment the cups nicely while providing a great home to some other plants!

Started out with a mess of stuff. Three succulents, chives, oregano, and sage. All repotted into one of those adorable containers. I didn’t get any shots of the herbs yet because I want to give them a chance to take to their new homes before I share them. So here’s a bunch of photos of the succulents instead.

This weekend we get to go start working on our vegetable plot! I can’t wait to share all the details about that. It’s going to be a ton of fun!

What did you do to celebrate earth day? Share in the comments!

  1. I have a mug that I painted (for my morning chai) with a friend at a ceramic shop just a month or two before she shot herself. When letting another friend borrow my car a couple of months later he crushed& shattered the mug to pieces and then attempted to glue it back together. Although he did a remarkable job of maintaining it’s shape, small chips were still missing from various parts of the mug making it unusable. But then I got the idea to just plant a couple of succulents in it and make it my garden in her honor that would continue to grow. 🙂 Upcycling is great!

    • Oh, I love that idea! It lets you keep the mug in her honor (I’m so sorry for that loss- that can’t have been easy) in a totally new and wonderful way! That’s so wonderful.
      Thanks for stopping in. xx
